Sponsored by National Dairy Council®, the LISN Award was introduced at a time when schools and industry started to develop closer relationships to create products and programs that offer children appealing, healthy options, so they “choose wellness.” In support of school wellness goals, the LISN Award acknowledges and promotes these partnerships, rewarding those enhancing the school milk experience with the New Look of School Milk. The prizes received are earmarked for use toward future school nutrition efforts.
The New Look of School Milk’s successful formula has generated sustained nutritional, wellness and financial returns by serving students a nutrient-dense beverage they also find appealing and great tasting. Currently, more than 9,500 schools serving more than 5.7 million children offer this value-added enhanced milk program. They have successfully used funds from increased milk sales and meal participation to help pay for the added value.
Nationwide, 55 dairy processors supply schools with the New Look of School Milk. Ice-cold milk is offered in a variety of flavors in kid-friendly, plastic packaging and is served by schools on the meal line and in a la carte and vending.
